Château Angelus is above all a family adventure, the owners of the estate, the family of Boüard de Laforest, would indeed be the 8th generation at its head , since 1782.
The Second Wine of Domaine Angélus was born in 1987 and represents approximately 20% of production. In 2012, during the last revision of the appellation classification, Château Angélus became Premier Grand Cru Classé "A", alongside Châteaux Blanc, Ausone and Pavie. The vineyard is located in a natural amphitheater on the coast and the foot of the south coast of Saint-Emilion. The vines are mainly composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with a high proportion of Cabernet Franc (46% of the vines planted), which gives the wine this particular finesse with ageing.
In 2018, Angélus obtained HVE (High Environmental Value) certification from the Ministry of Agriculture and Afnor. Angélus is one of Saint-Émilion's premier grands crus classés A, entirely converted to organic.
Carillon d'Angélus 2020 comes from an 18-hectare vineyard whose plots are spread over clay, clay-sand-limestone soils and draining soils. The harvest is done manually and carefully sorted by optical sorting. Vinification is carried out in the brand new cellar delivered for the 2019 harvest, which combines technical and environmental performance, but also aesthetics. Half of the malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, the other part in vats.
Aging continues for 16 or 18 months in French oak barrels, with 60% new barrels. The average annual production is around 80,000 bottles.
