Clos de La Gaffelière is the second wine of Château La Gaffeliere, 1er Grand Cru Classé since the origin of the Saint-Emilion classification in 1959.
It was first produced in 1985, and is vinified and aged with as much care as the first wine. It is made from a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. 90% of which comes from plot selections from the foothills, this wine has a specific vat room and cellar. An authentic and enjoyable wine.
Located at the southern entrance to the village of Saint-Emilion, Château La Gaffelière with its unique silhouette first of all evokes a Grand Vin, 1st Grand Cru Classé since the origin of the Saint-Emilion classification, in 1959. Vines have been present on the lands of Château La Gaffelière since the Gallo-Roman era, as evidenced by numerous mosaics discovered by Count Léo de Malet Roquefort in 1969 Disturbing coincidence: Ausone had a vineyard in the same place (4th century). The family of Malet Roquefort is convinced that these mosaics decorated the rooms of his villa. The quality of these decorative elements attests to the wealth of this place called the Palat (Palatium = Palace). This vintage comes from an exceptional terroir, a “golden triangle” nestled between the hills of Pavie and Ausone.
However, a great terroir is nothing without the will of people. The Malet Roquefort family has passionately directed the destiny of the property for more than three centuries, with a single goal: the development of the vineyard while producing a great wine to age.
